Why the name “Halfordsucks”?
Erm, well… My surname is Halford and I suck!
How long have you been creating content?
I started by streaming a bit of Fortnite in October 2019 after I broke my leg. I was stuck at home all the time and couldn’t ride my bike anymore so I started streaming for fun. I used it as an opportunity to express my creativity and whacky ideas that I was unable to do elsewhere. When Warzone came out, I switched over to playing that through lockdown and my numbers started to grow. 6 months in to being furloughed, I got a message through from a viewer explaining how much the streams had helped them during a very low point in their life. The next day, I rang my manager and quit my stable fulltime job to take streaming as serious as possible.
Do you make content full time?
I have now been fulltime since September 2020. At the time, it was a huge risk, I wasn’t making much money from streaming at all but I believed in what I was doing and took the plunge. I am now not only a full time content creator but also the owner of two other businesses that I have been a part of building too, SUCK IT Vapes and THING Energy. Content has become a lot more about being passionate about the things I make now as opposed to trying to monetise it completely and I can go back to enjoying the essence of trying new projects and failing without having to worry about being skint after!
What do you love most about creating content?
Having tried creating many types of content, I have realised that I love making people smile. Whether that be through humour or philanthropy, I just enjoy knowing that I have made someone’s day that bit brighter. It might not always be the case but I set out to give people an opportunity to escape reality and immerse themselves in something that isn’t quite so dark, and through the content I have made and people we have helped, I think that has been a success so far. I also love the fact is gives me a platform to share my learnings with other likeminded people and hopefully spark motivation through action among those that watch me.
